This class if for anyone seeking some space and calm in their busy lives. Drawing on tried and tested yoga techniques, we’re aiming to rebalance the the nervous system, release tension from the body and walk off the mat with a clearer focus on what really matters in our lives.

What to expect

This class is made up of 3 distinct phases…all rooted in the yoga tradition.

First we’ll practice conscious breathing - creating a sense of space in the lungs and upper body and then gently deepening the breath to trigger the nervous system’s relaxation or ‘rest and digest’ response.

  • Next comes gentle floor-based movement to melt away muscle tension. We’ll relax into some restorative yoga poses where blankets and blocks are used to support the body, allowing it to completely let go.
  • Finally, drawing on yoga ‘nidra’ deep relaxation techniques, we drift into a guided meditation to still the mind and make space for the present moment…not the past and not the future but the now.

Gentle music and soft lights will accompany this practice of total relaxation. The more we practice, the more we gain.

 What you will need

Bring a yoga mat if you can. We do have some spares if you need though. A blanket and a cushion or pillow would also be ideal. We have a small supply of bolsters if you would like to try one of those too.

Wear comfortable clothing such as joggers or leggings and a t-shirt. You may want to bring socks for cosiness during meditation. A second layer (jumper or cardi) is also a good idea.

Finally, it’s best not to come to class with a very full stomach, but a light meal is fine for this practice.

Please also complete the health questionnaire and email to adultlearning@rossettschool.co.uk if you haven't done one previously
